In the aftermath of the devastating Palisades Fire, this contemporary home designed with front-of-mind fire hardening simultaneously strives to maintain the sense of warmth and comfort of the original family home.
A fire-resistive structure of concrete “podium” and exterior shear walls plus innovative mass-timber columns, beams, and cross-laminated timber floors and roofs have been designed to increase the speed of construction through prefabrication.
Open-plan living and wide open indoor-outdoor spaces with floor-to-ceiling/ wall-to-wall views and access to the beach help maintain an informal and comfortable experience, reinforced through the selection of natural interior finishes — wood, stone, and blackened steel.
As the first beach house rebuild permitted for construction after the Palisades Fire, this home will stand a symbol of the resiliency and strength of the Malibu community.
